Just over the last few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to test a few more awesome patterns!
This is the Hatteras Hoodie, created by pattern designer Adrianna of Hey June Patterns. My son was given the rare opportunity (because hey, let’s face it, most pdf patterns are for girls!) to be the subject of this test!
For starters, the Hatteras Hoodie ‘pattern’ is basically three patterns in one. View A is a simple pull-over style with a hood and a kangaroo pocket. We added a simple button & ribbon closure to the neck and trim on the edges of the pocket for interest!
View B (the only one I don’t have photos of yet, but Miss A has one cut and in the works for her!) is a pullover without a hood and it has a hi-low hemline and twisted side seams.
View C is the one Mr B got to try out, and boy is he in love with it! This one has a full zipper front, a hood, and pockets.
The pattern was well-written, and contains computer-drawn illustrations to help the sewer along with each step.
There are plenty of opportunities to personalize it as well! Here we did a button & ribbon closure at the neck of View A just to girly it up a little bit.
The only place I ran into a problem was with attaching the binding strip to the hood. I didn’t know what it was supposed to look like finished, and just could not picture it in my head no matter how hard I tried! Once another tester shared her photos with me, a light bulb went on and it was MUCH easier to do the second time around.
So, to save you the frustration of trying to figure out what it’s supposed to look like, here’s a photo of the inside of Miss G’s hoodie!
I used ribbon on hers instead of bias binding, but it worked just the same! See? It’s just like the hoodies you buy from the Gap or other places like that. Bias binding, twill tape, ribbon, they’ll all work!!!
Also, Adrianna has since adjusted the instructions in the pattern itself and made them much more clear, as well as added more illustrations!!! Yay!!
How cute is this hoodie, even from the back?!
In addition to this just being such a versatile pattern- one that you NEED to add to your own personal library- there is a giveaway over at Hey June Patterns right now sponsored by Raspberry Creek Fabrics, and all you need to do to enter is comment on the Hey June post RIGHT HERE!
